3. OXO On Barista Brain 9-CUP Coffee Maker

You must have seen OXO for quiet sometime now, but recently they have taken a plunge and entered the market for kitchen electronics and we believe that they did such a good job that they gave many high-end brands a run for their money. So if you are looking an intelligent coffee maker then OXO On can be put on your list.

When we put the OXO On Barista Brain to test we really felt that it was made considering the end-users in mind.  This elegantly designed coffee maker is not just ‘all show and nothing tell’, but it will bring a flavorful cup of coffee that you will never forget. Whether it is one of your expensive  coffee brand treat or your regular morning fuel, the brew will always be excellent. And this is all because of the Intelligent microprocessor also known as the Barista Brain. This programmer slowly pulses hot water over the coffee grind, which brings out the perfect flavor and the temperature controller brews the coffee precisely between 197-205c. This SCAA recommended range brews the coffee, creating the balance between body sweetness and acidity without adding in the more bitter flavors.

Moreover this smart maker includes an intuitive LED interface and dial. The dial is an easy way to select the startup time, which will automatically activate having your coffee ready before work. And after its done brewing the single cup or 9 coffee cups, it will start counting the time letting you know for how long your coffee’s been sitting there.

And the fun part is that your coffee will not get cold because the installation of a thermal carafe, which seals the heat inside and keeps your freshly-made coffee hot for a long time.

Although all this seems quiet overwhelming but we assure that the OXO On is very easy to use and handle. After the auto-start timer is set, all you need to do every day is fill the machine with water, add the filter and grinds, select the number of cups you need and press the button. The Barista brain will see to the rest. And while all of this goes on, you wouldn’t hear anything apart from a low gurgling sound, which is soothing instead of being disturbing.

OXO left no room for complaints and added one of the important features of using good plastic for making the coffee maker. This does not only make sit durable but also makes it look good sitting on the kitchen counter.

All that we could nitpick from this coffee maker was that it is a tall design which makes it hard to fit in standard sized kitchen cabinets, but who cares. If you own a coffee maker with such looks you would always want it on display and not hidden from sight.

Pros

  • OXO On Barista Brain incorporates some pretty cool features that gives other brands a good competition.
  • The brewing technique is very good, giving you a true picture of what coffee tastes like.
  • There is an auto-start option.
  • The exterior is quite sturdy and will be durable.

Cons

  • Apart from having a little longer brewing time, this coffee maker is very taller than many, making it hard to fit inside the cabinet.

4. Bonavita BV1900TS 8-Cup Carafe Coffee Maker.

Let’s take a look at the Bonavita’s brand new drip-coffee maker BV1900TS. This a reincarnation of the previous BV1800, but its far better than the older model. As it brings the same great performance to the table plus a few great extra features all in the same price.

What we personally like about this product is that it’s attractively stylish, has a nice brushed metal design and will not take up much room. As it is really compact and just needs a few inches to budge in your counter top. So you don’t have to remove a lot of your things for the BV1900TS to fit in.

The features that it holds include the use of a thermal carafe, which is designed to keep your coffee hot for hours. This eradicates the need for preheating every time you pour a cup, which will eventually burn the coffee from over-heating destroying the flavor all together.

The Bonavita BV1900TS also holds premium brewing performance that means it boils the water to the optimal temperature for bringing out the right coffee flavors. Just pour water in the reservoir, place in the filter and grinds and switch on the power button. It is capable of brewing a whole pot in six minutes or less.

Furthermore, it is a very simple design with no complicated operating method or setup. It is very easy to clean as well, saving you a lot of time and effort, which you can invest in other productive activities.

This affordable coffee maker brings you the prefect cup of coffee every time with its strong coffee brewing abilities. There is also pre infusion mode which essentially lets you steep the coffee grounds for 30 seconds and right after that it will hit the brewing process and that is the secret behind the delicious steaming coffee that it makes.

As we try bringing you a true picture of every product, we did find some drawbacks for the Bonavita BV1900TS.  Considering it looks, we would say that it’s not that high-end and modern looking, with less premium looks but the performance is great and is a better budget buy. So people on a budgetary constraint, on a look out for a good coffee maker may consider this product if looks are not a priority for them.

Pros

  • The Bonavita BV1900TS is very easy to operate without all the flashy LED interface, knobs and dials.
  • It uses a premium brewing technique bringing you a perfect cup of coffee.
  • It has metric readings on the water reservoir, making it easy to pour in the right amount of water.

Cons

  • The looks are not much, as it’s not very luxurious looking.

At the first glance the Procter Silex caught our eye because it dint have an expensive LCD panel or blinking LED-lit buttons but it has a modernistic design which will look very opulent sitting at your counter top.

As hard it is to beat the Procter Silex in sleek looks, it is equally hard to make a cup of robust coffee like it. This kitchen appliance is as simple as it can get, with easy cleaning and dishwasher safe parts. This is an ideal choice for those who are very lazy and do not want to do anything except drink a strong cup of coffee to get them started.

This is tidy, black coffee machine which is capable of making enough coffee for you whole household of coffee drinkers or just one cup for you. The pause button allows you to add more water while the pot is in between the process of brewing coffee, which is great.

The Procter Silex is designed to use a permanent coffee filter, which eradicates the annual expense of buying paper filters for making coffee. But if you still miss your paper filter then you can use them as well. This feature makes this product very versatile in its usage.

As it is pretty straightforward, without all the fancy features and complications. It has an on/off button and controls for adjusting the coffee flavors. Apart from that the packaging includes a scoop for pouring coffee and that’s pretty much it.

Unfortunately this coffee maker is not programmable and has no auto start or shutdown option.  For all-rounder simplicity the Procter Silex will do that job and will do it well. You do not get a ton of controls or options to play around with but you do have a lavish pot of coffee you keep you going for the whole day.

Pros

  • You can adjust your coffee strength with the Procter Silex.
  • It involves no complicated controls or features.
  • It has a pause option for adding water or coffee grinds in between brewing.

Cons

  • This coffee maker lacks many features such as a water filter, a programmable clock and an automatic shut-off function.
